Surfcasting action is picking up

As we get closer to September (my favorite fishing month), surfcasting for feeding Spanish has really picked up. Although most of the fish have been on the smaller side, there have been some bigger class fish mixed in. Cooler winds out of the north has fired up the bite on the beach.

Spanish have been biting well right along the beaches on 3/4, 1 and 1.5 ounce Gunslingers, with the 1 oz silver/white, pink/white and blue/silver getting hit most often.

False Albacore (Albies) are getting closer

On consecutive mornings, I’ve seen Albies schooled up approximately 500 yards off the point at Fort Macon State Park. I cannot confirm it, but rumor has it that one was caught from the sand at Radio Island. For the past three falls, I have caught my first Albies of the season the first week of September. With the recent weather pattern, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some landed in the next week or so.

Hot color and weight of the week

By far, the silver/white 1oz Gunslinger was most successful for me.
