Atlantic bonito, spanish mackerel, and Blackfin tuna!

Welcome to the new Beach Bum Lures website and thank you for supporting the business!

We are just starting the second week of May and have already experience a few confirmed firsts. We’ve seen hundreds of Atlantic Bonito hauled in, Spanish Mackerel and a couple weeks ago, a 35lb Blackfin Tuna, surely testing the split rings and hooks.

SURF FISHING

Inconsistent wind patterns have made the surf fishing spotty, but there have been plenty of fish caught around Cape Lookout, Fort Macon State Park and Atlantic Beach from the sand. As always, look for places to fish where the wind is an advantage. South-facing beaches are great for wind out of the north. Don’t be afraid to get out on the sand in challenging conditions; that’s often when you’ll hook up with a monster. It was this time last year when two king mackerel were landed from the beach on consecutive days. We’d suggest firing out a 2oz Gunslinger just to see. Plus, cobia season is open.

HOT GUNSLINGER COLORS/SIZES

Without question, the most consistent options so far have been the Chrome 1.5oz, Chrome 1oz, Rose Gold 1oz, Rainbow 3/4, 1 and 1.5oz and the Blue Silver Scales in all sizes.

PIER FISHING

Pier fishing has been, due to windy conditions, up and down. High winds in the wrong direction muddies the water so for that reason, waiting on the water to clear up is part of the deal. The Pierslinger in the silver and olive have been pretty effective. Important to keep it moving near the surface.

NEARSHORE

The nearshore areas around Atlantic Beach and Bogue Inlet have been on fire. Bonito and Spanish Mackerel have been reliable. I get questions about whether or not the Gunslingers can be trolled. Yes! Planer not necessary. Try using a 1.5-2 oz trolling weight with plenty of leader.
